Happy Birthday Hinagiku-san

Today is March 3, the day of one of the significant holidays in Japan, the Hinamatsuri. Also, this is the birthday of one of the heroines in the popular anime/manga, Hayate no Gotoku, Katsura Hinagiku.

Probably named after the festival in which she was born, her character’s running gag is that she is viewed by many as the cool girl, in which sometimes leads to many girls confessing to her instead to other boys– something that is quite the opposite or contrary to her name or even to the festival in which she was born into; Or even that she is even manlier than others (as an example, the character Azumamiya Kōtarō being a wimp and never excels in anything).

In short, she is the ideal cool female leader of the cast, in which she isn’t seen with her feminine side in the least (Hayate points this out in much in season 2 of the anime). She gets frustrated because of this, wishing that people would see her as a ‘cute girl’ side for a change (especially in front of a certain special someone).

With this, she was elected as the most famous/favorite character (taking the top spot, with Maria and Nagi taking Second and Third). Her charm, cuteness, athleticism, competitiveness, and leadership qualities make her one of the prominent anime heroines to date.

Today, we at the Student Council pay homage to this fine young lady.

I’m sure you know what scene this is

Happy birthday, Katsura Hinagiku-san!
